After I committed my life to following Jesus, I focused on sharing the Gospel. But I was still relying on my own understanding–I hadn’t yet learned how God uniquely wanted me to live it out. I reached a point where I asked myself: “Is there a unique reason why God put me here? Is there a platform He has given me to share His message?”
At the time, I didn’t know what to focus on–football, school, or what others were saying about me. Different voices were telling me what I should do, but I only wanted to hear God’s voice. So I took a retreat, and I stayed alone in my room for a couple of days. I shut out the noise around me so I could hear God’s voice away from the distractions. This was the birth of understanding my purpose.
Sometimes, the noise from the people around us, or even our own thoughts, can drown out God’s voice. That’s why it’s important to create a stillness in which we can hear from our Father, our ultimate coach.
I had been given football talent. I wasn’t going to play just to entertain people or to earn a paycheck. I was playing for something more. In those quiet moments in my room, God spoke to me clearly. He wanted me to enter the world of football so others could learn from my journey. I was going to prove it was possible to succeed at the highest level without compromising your faith.
God places different people in different fields to carry His message there. He has purposefully and intentionally positioned you to share His love no matter what place or position you have.
Because I was confident in my purpose, I was free to be bold in sharing my story. Our stories hold great power to influence those around us. As Christians, we have a responsibility to display to others the evidence of God’s grace and His goodness in our lives.
Challenge
How can you boldly share the evidence of God’s goodness in your life with someone this week?
Which voices or thoughts are getting in the way of hearing God’s voice? How can you create an intentional time alone with Him during your day?
Take a moment to sit in stillness and silence with God. Get out a notebook and pen. And just listen. Where has God directed your steps to take His message? It may be to the nations, or it may be to your neighbors. There is no mission field too big or too small for God to work.
Prayer
“God, help me stay focused on You amidst the noise of the world. Help me to drown out any distractions so I can hear Your voice. In the stillness, guide me to the place you have prepared for me to carry the gospel. In Jesus’ name, Amen”
